Ángel Raya se licenció en Medicina e hizo su doctorado en Fisiología en la Universidad de Valencia. Prosiguió su formación postdoctoral en el Instituto de Investigaciones Citológicas (actualmente, el Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe) en Valencia, de 1995 a 2000.

Posteriormente fue Investigador Asociado (2000-2004) e Investigador Asociado Senior (2004-2006) en el Gene Expression Laboratory of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla, CA (EEUU).

Regresó a España en 2006 como Profesor de Investigación ICREA. Fue Coordinador Científico del CMR[B] hasta 2009. Después se incorporó en el Instituto de Bioingeniería de Cataluña (IBEC), como investigador principal del grupo “Control de Potencia de la Células Madre”.

En 2014 fue nombrado Director del Centro de Medicina Regenerativa de Barcelona CMR[B].



Actualmente está estudiando los mecanismos tisulares, celulares y moleculares que determinan la respuesta regenerativa en ciertas especies de vertebrados, así como los mecanismos genéticos y epigenéticos que controlan la reprogramación celular.
